*** This only works for PHAT PS3′s with PATA drives at the moment (silver drive ribbon cables approx 1″/25mm). If you have the latest PHAT PS3 and the width of the drive ribbon cable is 12mm, 3k3y will not work unless you make a hardware modification.

Really IMPORTANT stuff that everyone needs to know.

   1. 1. 3k3y works on certain Phat consoles at the moment. No Slim support yet, and no Super Slim support either, and no support for Phat consoles that use SATA
   2.  
   3. 2. Almost all Phat consoles (if on CFW) are hardware compatible. if your drive cable looks like this  then your drive is compatible. Some drives in last phat models, like CECHL onwards has thinner cables, they are 12mm thick and they communicate in a totally different way then the other fat cable which is 30mm thick. Please do not buy this yet if you have a thin cable, new hardware is needed!

   5. 3. 3k3y can only be installed if you are able to obtain your drive key. This can only be done on ps3 console that are on CFW at the moment and that can run a pkg file that dumps your drive key which is then loaded onto your micro sd card. You can do this before buying the product.

Once the device is installed. You can remove CFW if you wish, and be on OFW so you can update your console freely, and be online.

• * 3k3y/Xk3y screen. You have have one from your Xk3y you can use this, it allows you to see the status of the 3k3y at all times, and choose your ISo files from here. There is a new 3k3y screen which has more ports, cost more, and needs an external power source for more power. This is NOT that. We will not be getting these as you can buy a USB hub for cheaper.
   
• * Wifi dongle, Allows you to choose content from a web interface! Same dongle as Xk3y uses. 

The 3k3y is a DVD drive emulator. This means that whatever you can run via Disc on your ps3 console, you can run as an ISO on your harddrive. One great feature we have been playing with is the ability to maniulate certain ISOs after they have been dumped to make them region free. This can be done with Blu Ray Movies using AnyDVD HD. You can also do this to PSX (Play Station 1  games), change the region on the ISO to achieve region free gaming on your console.

How It Work :

3k3y is an optical disk drive emulator for the Playstation 3 video game console.

It is installed between the genuine Bluray drive and the PS3 motherboard.

Once 3k3y is successfully installed and configured it can be used to make backups of your original PS3 game disks to USB media, and play those backups from USB media without the need of the original game disk.

Several games can be backed up to a single USB media, making it ideal as a 'jukebox' for hardcore gamers as well as for families with children too young to handle bluray discs with appropriate care.

3k3y works with most PS3 models, however there are a few exceptions, most notably the new super slim model and all PS3s which comes with firmware 4.xx (after retrieving the drive key the PS3 can be upgraded to any firmware). We are working to add support for these PS3's but you are adviced to consult with your reseller if you are in doubt whether your PS3 is compatible with 3k3y or not.
